eNavigation workshop

AMPI represented pilot's interests in an AMSA hosted eNavigation Usability workshop on 4-6 March 2013. 44 delegates representing 11 countries attended, the development of the IMO's eNavigation strategy implementation plan.

PPE in pilot transfers

AMPI has commissioned extensive research into Personal Protective Equipment worn by pilots during transfers. Detialed recommendations relating to footwear, gloves, helmets, PFDs. wet weather jackets, and PLBs is available.

IMPA Notice 877

The International Maritime Pilots Association met with the IMO in early June 2015 (MSC95), with three issues raised on behalf of pilots. AMPI members can read the IMPA President's brief here

Challenges in pilot transfers

AMSA and AMPI were actively involved in the recent IMO review and amendments to SOLAS regulations on pilot boarding arrangements. These new regulations, and a new wheelhouse poster, are designed to improve pilot safety during transfers.

A report commissioned by OCIMF claims proactive analysis of voyage data recorder information on a regular basis can provide an important tool for use in accident prevention and the reinforcement of a positive operational safety culture.
