Peter Liley

Enhancing Bridge Situational Awareness in Pilotage


With over 21 years piloting experience, Peter Liley has served with Brisbane Marine Pilots Pty Ltd since 2002. Born into a family of generational seamen and pilots, Peter began his seagoing career in 1978 with ANL whilst studying at the Australian Maritime College and obtaining his tickets in 1984.

Peter then spent 12 years at sea, a highlight of which was serving as Master on RSV Aurora Australia, a multi task Marine science research platform and resupply ship for Australia’s Antarctic Bases.

Peter has served on the Board of Australasian Marine Pilots’ Institute (AMPI), and its predecessor, for over 20 years including a term as President from 2009-2013.

Peter is a Training Officer and Check Pilot and has made several presentations both locally and internationally on Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and AMPI CPD program, advocating for lifelong learning. Peter was appointed as Managing Director in April 2018.
